09 - Stitch in Time

__His old green tank top had seen better days and when it ripped during a sparring session Heero was left with something that was more hole than whole. He wasn't the kind of person to hold onto something that had no purpose, but when Duo suggested gently that they turn it into an oil rag or two, he was quick to agree. It lasted as such for a little while longer before first one piece, and then the other, escaped to places unknown with no hint of return. He didn't care by then. He still had his memories; and the small piece he had wrapped around Odin's old gun wasn't going anywhere. ___

08 - No Retreat
__The metaphorical wall against his back was as solid as if it really existed and Heero found himself bracing against it the second Duo stormed into his office, slid one hip up against his desk, and planted a hand square in the centre of Heero's chest. __

"Past office hours, Buddy Boy." Duo's voice was low and Heero picked up the words more from the heat of them breathed against his lip than any sound carrying in the air between them. "No retreat this time." __

The wall at his back may have still been there, but the one at his front was well and truly gone, and Heero found himself leaning forward and kissing Duo, much to Duo's surprise, as they sat together amongst the rubble.

25 - Draw the Line

__Heero could never understand when people in his office would 'draw a line' through something they didn't want to think about any longer: an embarrassing meeting, a stake out gone wrong. The past is gone, seemed to be their answer, now it's just a matter of moving on into the future. But it didn't make sense. To Heero forgetting about the mistakes of the past was just another way of turning that line drawn through them into an endless spiral. Far better, he thought, to extend that line out underfoot and use it as a guide to avoid making the same mistake again. __

22 - Major Renovation

__Mars was making progress in leaps and bounds but it was still a harsh, cold, pitiless world when Heero and Duo arrived on the surface. There was no water in the atmosphere and the scientists in the biosphere had yet to successfully harvest a crop but the potential was there, just like Heero's old apartment back home. And, just like when they had stood in the entry hall to the tiny, cramped two bedroom flat, Heero found himself casting a sidelong glance at Duo, who was standing there with his arm raised and hand cushioning the back of his head. _

_"Well," Duo's voice rang out, full of humour as black as the chlorophyll shaded lichen covering most of the rocks on the northern hemisphere. "Talk about your fixer upper." __

10 - Take the Fall__

Heero liked tuesday afternoons; those were the days he got to take a break from the regular office work and take his turn putting the new cadets through their paces in the gym. At the start of every new intake there would be a few people eyeing him up, wondering, sometimes out loud, what the hell this little guy was going to be able to show them. He took great pleasure in putting them to rights within a few sessions by singling them out and proceeding to make their size, strength and lack of smarts work against them. "If you don't learn to take the fall," he'd snarl at each one of them when he had them pinned to the floor, his blue eyes burning with the message "the fall will take you." And one day you won't have a parachute there to break it.
